Dr. Kristín Vala Ragnarsdóttir
Dr Kristín Vala Ragnarsdóttir is Professor of Sustainability Science at the Institute of Earth Sciences and Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland (UI) . Prior to moving to the University of Iceland in 2008 as Dean of Engineering and Natural Sciences she was Professor of Environmental Sustainability in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol UK. She is a Distingushed Fellow at the Schumacher Institute UK. Dr Ragnarsdóttir received BSc degree in Geochemistry and Petrology at the University of Iceland and MS and PhD in Geochemistry at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois USA specializing in geothermal systems. Dr Ragnarsdottir´s transdisciplinary studies include determining sustainability indicators and ecosystem services for soil as well as developing frameworks, processes and indicators for sustainable communities with food security at the centre. She is currently undertaking world-wide evaluations of natural resources (with Harald Sverdrup). Dr Ragnarsdóttir has been on the editorial board for Geochimica Cosmochimica Acta, Chemical Geology, Geochemical Transactions and eEarth. She is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Solutions, a hybrid academic/popular journal. Dr Ragnarsdóttir is past President of the Schumacher Society UK, current Vice-Chair of the Balaton Group and board member of FutureIceland and Association of University Women (Iceland). Previously she was on the Board of the Geochemical Society, the European Association for Geochemistry and the Geological Society UK. She is a fellow ofAcademia Europaea, the Icelandic Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Arts UK. She is scientific advisor to theEcological Sequestration Trust, TreeSisters, Health Empowerment Through Nutrition and Association of Organic Consumers (Iceland).
